Guest Post: How Simple Comments can Build High Traffic Sites
In search of more traffic for your site, looking to get more comments on your blog? You have already optimized your site and articles for search engines. You have setup a killer domain name, and you are researching and adding the best keywords for your site and articles, you even submit your articles to social bookmarking sites and social media sites, but you still are not getting that much traffic. What can a site owner / blogger do to build more traffic?
How to Build Massive Traffic
One of the fastest ways to get traffic back to your site is to comment on sites are related to your niche. By commenting daily on sites you gain backlinks to your site, you also get yourself and your site noticed. The more you comment the more you get noticed. Once you are noticed, people will start to click on your backlinks and take a look at your site.
Creating Comments that Build Traffic is An Art
Not all comments are created equal. You can not just leave a short comment on every site you visit, if you do you will be considered a comment spammer and your comments will be deleted and counted as spam. Nobody likes spammers and you do want to be considered a spammer. It not only wastes your time, it hurts your brand and the way others see you and your brand. For more information about building traffic through comments, check out my guest post over at Famous Bloggers…

I always think that if you can’t think of anything to write in a comment or you can only come up with something short, then it’s best not to leave a comment, as you mention in your post, leaving short comments could get you listed as spam and that the last thing a good commentator wants.

Yeah, I wish those resource sites wouldn’t do that and make their commenters do real comments…

I did enjoy this post at Famous Bloggers, and I hope it works out well for you – I’m certainly enjoying commenting on this site.
I’ve been closer to 20 comments a day since our last discussion, more or less. Traffic is “meh,” although I get the feeling things might skyrocket soon. There’s just too many comments left on too many blogs and content getting decent enough search traffic to begin with for traffic to continue being as low as it is.
One thing I’m definitely noticing: when I post more, while in the midst of commenting and promoting more, that really causes traffic spikes. It’s like that many more people are paying attention.

Askok,
Thanks, I see a lot more traffic when I post more and comment 20 – 30 times a day with mix of high traffic dofollow and nofollow sites. Just mix it up and try and stay in your niche.

Good info James. The number one thing a blogger can do is to build backlinks. You can do onsite optimization all you want, but it will do you no good unless there is zero competition.
Leave relevant and useful comments… just saying thanks or making the author feel warm and fuzzy inside won’t cut it and will usually get deleted.
Just my 2 cents.

Yeah backlinks are key. I do think if you do on-page SEO correctly and you get can get our keywords ranked, you can get a lot of traffic. I get 80 percent of my traffic from Google and a lot of my keywords are hitting 1st and 2nd pages of the search engines.

Hi James,
More solid commenting insight here, thanks for sharing.
When commenting I try to make an impact by thinking about the word “Impact”…sounds funny at first, but when dwelling on the word you tend to do something impactful.
It’s not about trying to impress someone because this shows up as a forced comment. It’s about adding max value with the right number of words: not too long or short a comment.

Ryan,
So very true. I have seen so many comments try impress others to click on their links, for me I usually see through those comments and almost never click on them…

I think too many people try to comment just for backlink value. I have found that commenting on the right nofollow blogs can generate a lot of traffic too. Of course, like you say, the comment should be of value.

I agree, I find I can get more traffic from high traffic nofollow sites than dofollow sites might offer. But I don’t comment to comment. I comment to spread my brand, add value to blogging community and get traffic back to might site.
I really get tired of hearing and reading about people people saying commenting is only about getting the backlinks and there is no other reason to do it…

Solid tips James and I do believe that if done properly, commenting is a great way to gain more traffic. The one good thing about this type of traffic is generally it is the same people who interested in the same niche and are potential readers that could be loyal. just make sure that aside from leaving quality comments, you also have quality content to back it up.

I agree, loyalty is a good thing, You can make a lot of loyal readers just by making good comments over and over again But you won’t get that if you don’t have good content…

hi James, you make an interesting point ” back linking” from relevant sites makes sense, although i was told that the new google algorithm is changing and that anchor text and backlinks wouldn’t be of importance. They say 70 percent of the backlinks should be relevant, but im waiting for more information for the final confirmation. Great article

Yeah I have heard the same thing. But until then I would still use comments to backlink. Then if the rules do change, then it will be good to build traffic and your brand.
I am interested in seeing if commenting will go way down if the rules do change.

I bounce back and forth on the issue of short comments being spammy. On one hand I don’t mind giving fellow bloggers a hand up with a backlink, which is why my blog is Dofollow, but I do like to see some indication in the comment that they at least read the post. Thanks for your thoughts on the issue.

Yeah. I prefer a good comment on my site. I tend to delete a short comment, if it looks spammy or doesn’t have a website attached to it. Usually I leave the short ones up if I know the readers and they have been around for a while and comment on my site regularly

I thought I saw this post over at famous bloggers all right. It’s a very good point, I get a fair few comments on my blog, which are nothing more than copy and paste spam comments which aren’t relevant at all, thankfully askimet catches most of them.

I get a lot of those junk emails as well. I kill them all and they keep coming back for more… Askimet does catch a lot, but a lot get through and sit waiting to be moderated. I hate coming back from vacation and see several hundred of those comments that I have to go through and kill.

good points.. while I enjoy making long comments because sometimes I get a bit carried away lol, I try making short comments that are smart, making impact with just a few words and make the reader come back and check out your posts.

Dev, keep it up. It only gets better. Try and hit some high traffic sites, do some guest writing at famous bloggers and you will be happy with the results. Just make sure you stick around and market your article and comment back to your readers… its pointless to guest post, if you are not going to stick around to talk with your readers…
