  2. Slow loading WordPress site
  3. Poor content
  4. They found what they were looking for and have moved on
  5. Content isn’t what they were looking for.

If your site has a great design, loads quickly and has great content, then chances are they are finished with your article and is moving on to something else.

How To keep Your Readers on Your Site by Interlinking

There are many ways to keep readers on your site but, today, I want to talk about one way of keeping readers on your site longer. To keep readers on your site, you can use the method of interlinking (also called deep linking).

What is Interlinking

Interlinking is linking one article on your website to another. Normally interlinking is used to link related articles together using anchor text related to the topic you are writing about or a term you mentioned. For an example of interlinking check out my first link. It points to an older article I wrote about.

Why Is Interlinking Important

Just linking to outbound articles gives your site authority to the searching engines (part of good SEO practices). If you interlink your articles, this can help the search engines and readers get a bigger picture about your site/blog is all about.

Interlinking helps your site by…

  • Increases user average time on site
  • Reduces bounce rate
  • Makes it easy for search engines crawl deeper into your websites
  • Helps with search engine with indexing
  • Improves page ranking for internal pages, when you use right anchor text

How To Interlink Your Articles

If you have a site that’s been around a while, its easy. All you have to do is write your article and as you write it, think about the different related articles you have on your site. When you come to a word or several words (that would make for good anchor text) create your link to that article.

If you use WordPress…

If your site runs on WordPress, then you have it easy. The wordpress editor offers a related search tool when using the editor’s hyperlinking tool. This is a free and easy solution to finding related content on your site. But if you want some something more automated or looking to auto link to common keywords, then you should check out a new plugin by Andy Bailey the creator of CommentLuv.
