Last Wednesday I wrote an article about Hootsuite and the new Publisher features. During this upgrade, they removed the Pending Tweets Column from the dashboard in favor of the Calendar View under the publisher tab. As of Yesterday (June 23rd, 2011), Hootsuite gave us back our Pending Tweets Column by popular demand.

Pending Tweets Column or Scheduler, The Choice is Yours!

Although I love the new Scheduler/Publish View, I quickly started to miss the Pending Tweets Column. From what Hootsuite found, the new scheduler features were a success for enterprise and large companies but, for the small business and individual users, they preferred the Pending Tweets Column.

So Hootsuite Developers stepped up and quickly came up with a solution that works for everyone. They took all the great features of both options and combined them so we the users can choose how we want to schedule our tweets.

Pending Updates

The return of the Pending Tweets Column was put back the way it was. This feature were designed as a convenient way to quickly schedule and view already scheduled tweets and not have to leave your fast moving social media streams. But with the new update from last week, users lost this option. So when they brought back this feature added a few things:

  • Scheduled Tweets can be seen in both the Publisher Calendar and the Pending Streams
  • Pending tweets are now editable and you can delete them as well
  • Pending tweets will now auto-refresh
  • Previous created Pending Streams are restored (unless they were deleted since Publisher release)

Batch Scheduler and Calendars

Along with the updates to the Pending Tweets Column, Hootsuite Developers also made some changes to the Batch Scheduler and Publisher tools. Some of the below updates were added during the Publisher View update.

  • Calendar can be viewed in daily, weekly, or monthly views
  • Pending updates are coded by color codes.
  • Batch Scheduler now handles up to 200 messages per social profile. But batch size is still set to 50.
  • “International characters broadcast better with improved handling of non UTF-8 characters”

Final Thoughts

Hootsuite is my favorite Twitter client. In fact its my favorite social media tool. What I like most about Hootsuite ,is they listen to their users. They always research better ways to help its users. If you have any questions, issues, opinions, or you just want to suggest a new feature that you would to see in Hootsuite, you just have to ask. You can reach them through these Twitter accounts; (@hootsuite, @hootwatch, @hootsuite_help, etc.) If you write about Hootsuite, they will find you and leave a comment on your article. This is very cool on their part. I really do not see this much with most companies.

As for the new updates, I love them, The publisher is a great tool and it will defiantly be a powerful tool for those large companies using social media to protect and build their brand. Now, with the return of the Pending Tweets Column, the new features will work for everyone.
