I like to think of blogging like going out on a date or inviting someone into your home. First impressions mean everything to our human species. We make fast judgments on other people we see and come to conclusions of who they might be or what they will act like. These same first time impressions…

A blogger could have a brilliant and exciting strategic plan. However, if they have no passion, drive or motivation for blogging, their plan will amount to nothing. While there are times when energy will be low, making writing, researching and networking a drudgery, bloggers need to find new and innovative ways of fighting apathy. Keep…

Until recently I was a big fan of aftermarket comment systems such as Disqus and Intense Debate. Both are great systems but they do have some reasons why you would want to think twice and do your research when selecting a comment system. Each system basically does the same thing but each one has special…

Don't sweat it James, just switch over to Disqus with me

Thinking about it. But then again, I am also thinking about switching back to the default commenting system and just use the plugins again.

Is intense debate comments are do follow?

Yes Intense debate is DoFollow. I use a DoFollow plug that sets all the comments and links on the site DoFollow, you have the option to set new user to NoFollow until they reach a certain amount of comments.

hi james! i noticed only this afternoon that all my comments are gone (i’m using the commentluv plugin via intensedebate.com). because i am not a techie, my first reaction was to scream! i thought i had done something to my blog. then i went to the intense debate site to try & contact them & get help. but i saw that the site was down. am i right in assuming that:
1) THAT is the reason why the comments on my site have disappeared?
2) once they’re up and running, will my comments be returned?
3) does this happen ALOT?
4) u said that you removed intense debate. so you’re using JUST commentluv?
5) i really love my intensedebate-enabled commentluv plugin. but what else can u suggest?

Hi Mama Mia,
We had to finally remove it from our site all togehter. Its just isn’t worth the hassle. Between not getting needed help from intense debate and the comment system adding comments to the wrong posts and several other issues, we removed it totally. We lost a lot of comments but since then everything has gotten better.
As for your blog, I took a look at it. Its a nice looking blog. Your on blogspot, so intense debate + comluv is the best option. Blogger comment system doesn’t support many comment plugins. Your only option is to invest in wordpress self hosted and use their default comment system (the best comment system) and add the comluv plugin.
If you have any questions let me know via the contact from. I can give you some basic advice if needed.

Thanks for this information. I was not aware of these things but it is really helping my growth curve.
I would like to know how you got your social icons on the left hand side of your blog if you can let me know.
I see you are using wibiya and if it is the free version take a look at meebo. seems more functional but I dont think you can change the color.
Thanks

Hi Bill,
Thanks for stopping by.
I haven’t really messed with the bars. I picked Wibiya at the time because it seemed to have the best options. I will look in to Meebo.
As for my social media icons on the left side, you can manually code them with CSS or you can use the Cute Profiles Plugin.

Intense debate is best and much better then commentluv plugin.

Hi there,
Actually CommentLuv works with Intense Debate works now. But intense debate was removed from this site when it started causing problems with the comment system and add comments to the right blog posts. With no help from commentluv, its not SEO friendly and your comments are stored on another site we decided it was not worth it. Since removing it, our comments of gone up, we have more traffic arriving from the search engines, and our site loads faster.

My comment system came with the theme. I have modified parts of theme but the one part I have been almost happy with is the comment system. Check out digital nature. I am sure you could download theme and make it work with your site. =)

I have IntenseDebate integrated to my blog lately. The social network integration gives good reasons for one to add the plugin to a blog. The plugin is superb and lot of other features which makes a blog totally commentable.
