Hovercards are cards that appear when a user hovers over the avatar or username another user in their Twitter stream. The user card that appears will display the users profile information and allow to follow them, while staying on the current page. Twitter will slowly released in stages so not everyone will have this available to use. Have you gotten yours yet? You may not know that you have it if you use applications such as TweetDeck or Hootsuite. Hovercards are only available through the Twitter interface.

Two days ago I happened to find my account was activated for Hovercard when I was tweting from the web interface. I almost never use the Twitter interface so if I had not happened to open Twitter’s website I might not have found I had the Hovercard for several days.

First Impressions

For the last couple of days I have been testing out the Hovercard and found that it can be a useful tool. You can use the the Hovercard to view users that have retweeted people and find out more about them without leaving your stream.

When you click on the option… button you will get the expanded window. In this window you can see the user stats for the user’s Hovercard. You can see the followers, following, tweets, and the lists. You can also see their bio and the latest tweet. At the bottom of the expanded view on the right you have a button you can click on that gives you more options. Those options are @mention user, direct message user, unfollow user, follow user, block user, and report user for spam.

Conclusion

I found this new feature to be useful and will help anyone that uses the Twitter interface regularly. The cards are beautifully designed, simple to understand, and navigate through the different options easily.

After testing the Hovercard features, I do like the addition to Twitter and it will come in handy when I use Twitter’s interface. But I rarely use the web interface and prefer to use Hootsuite or Tweetdeck for sending and receiving tweets. Hootsuite and TweetDeck already have features like this but you have to click on the username and they do come in handy. So what do you think? Is your account activated yet? I like to hear my readers thoughts on the Twitter Hovercard,

Back in February Twitter announced a new feature that they would be releasing a new feature called Hovercard.
