Hi Debra, the active button are part of the theme. There is plugin that extends the features of that theme option, but it only works for the theme.

There is usually a gradient setting. You need go into your gradient and set it the way you want to fade the image. If you haven’t found the right setting let me know…

I believe that if you want to be a professional (no matter what you write about, or sell), you should get a premium theme. I like the Magazine style most, and I am happy that you have included it in your review.
